The Institute of Security Technologies MORATEX is implementing the partnership project “Science4Business – Science for Business” in a consortium of:
- Gdynia Maritime University (Leader),
- University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn,
- Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz,
- Institute of Horticulture – National Research Institute
The project will involve R&D work based on research results with identified commercial potential under Task 1 “Development Incubator.” Below are the assumptions of the third proposal selected by the ITB “MORATEX”:
A new generation of impact protection kit – a leg protector (knee and shin/shin).
The project involves developing an innovative component of the impact protection kit in the form of a new generation leg protector (knee and shin/shin) intended for Police riot officers. The core of the solution is the use of a composite protective system combining layers of soft materials with an open or closed-cell structure and thermoformed polymer shapes with precisely defined shape, thickness, and stiffness.
The project’s goal is to achieve a protector design that meets the requirements of the BS 7971-4 standard at protection level 2, while reducing weight and improving ergonomics and comfort. It is also important to ensure full compatibility of the leg protector with other components of the kit, including the thigh protector and safety footwear. The innovative nature of the solution will involve the creation of a multi-layer material system with optimized mechanical and impact-absorbing properties, as well as a new fastening system based on stable, adjustable straps that ensure a secure fit of the protector to the limb and significantly increase comfort of use.

The total cost of the project is: 491 970,00 PLN.
